THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Spread over 37 acres, estimated at Rs 161 crore and with a seating capacity of 50,000, it is pegged as Kerala’s ‘first world-class stadium.’ The Kariavattom Greenfield Stadium, which will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the upcoming 35th National Games, is fast nearing completion on the outskirts of the state capital, the National Games Organising Committee (NGOC) said on Monday.
This stadium is the first-of-its-kind in the country to be built under the PPP model, NGOC said. Since the land belongs to the Kerala University, the stadium will be handed over to it after 15 years. The stadium is located on 30.5 acres proper and 6.5 acres has been earmarked for a 1,000-vehicle parking lot.
“The Stadium is divided into four zones. While the North Zone is reserved for cricket the East is for football. Each zone will be equipped with all the high tech facilities such as players’ lounge, gymnasium, media centre, stock room and the South Zone will house malls and food courts,
